Sustainable development has to consider environment, economy and social aspects. Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC) as well as Social Life cycle assessment (sLCA) are methods to quantify the sustainability of products and processes in a systematic way.
Those studies should be performed according to the International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD), in line with international standards (ISO-14040/-14044, 2006).
The investigation of numerous criteria and their quantification over a life cycle enables a holistic view and forms the basis for multiple criteria optimization as well as balanced decisions in terms of sustainability.
